For today's post I have the first battle report of this blog. This game was my standard weekly game my longtime group plays, but in future you may also see posts from a narrative campaign I've been intending to get together.

Lately we've been playing older crusade missions with more casual lists as an attempt to shake things up and this week's game was a planetstrike mission. I played as the defender, tasked to hold a fortified position in the center of the board against two oppossing forces of equivalent size, while holding out against ongoing bombardment (This was not an easy task as it turns out). For the board we opted for a flat plane this week in order to even the playing field a bit, giving me the sole source of cover.

The Battle Begins

Under the command of the warband's First Acolyte, the cultist forces, accompanied by a great daemon of the plague god arrayed themselves before the corrupted tower in preparation for the oncoming invasion. The servants of the corpse god had foolishly left their walls unguarded and the First acolyte punished their arrogance by destroying them.

The noble defenders of this fortress.

The imperial walls besieged.

It was after the destruction of the imperial fortifications that the first attackers appeared and bombardments began.

The Green(?)skins Attack

The attackers make themselves known

The orkoid warriors stormed onto the battlefield, firing wildly at the fortress and its defenders, putting a sizable dent into the Word Bearers.

The eclectic orkoid forces

Despite being caught out of position, the zealous souls under the command of the First Acolyte fought furiously, taking a score of orks with them even as half their number were felled.

Battle is joined.

The trials were only beginning for the faithful as the imperials began their invasion.

A nutritious meal is necessary for maintaining the energies of even the most disciplined of gamers.

The Imperial Assault Begins

Big guns never tire.

The imperials entered the battle heralded by the firing of heavy weapons, felling the great tower and severely injuring Cor'bax Utterblight. The tower's defenders were force to make a hasty evacuation only to be fired upon by imperial guns.

The fall of the tower reveals the foul ritual within.

The End and the Death

For all of their zealotry the Word Bearers could not hope to prevail against such numbers, the First Acolyte made his escape upon the death of his followers and Cor'bax fell in battle against an orkoid mechanized monstrosity. The remaining defenders were picked off as the imperials and orks battled over the destroyed tower, with the imperials emerging victorious.

The Acolyte's last stand.

A clash of titans.

I think a lesson I took from this battle was that 3 player games with a single defender might not be fair if all players are at an equal points level. Regardless, I had fun and its always good to spend time with friends.
At this point I think this website is fully set up. In coming days expect additions to the Lore section consisting of histories of the enemies of the Infernal Hand and further tweaks to the layout.
